The former Ipswich ace was always destined to leave The Valley this summer following Charlton's relegation, although Spurs were not thought to be the favourites for his signature. Bent had been expected to join West Ham, with The Hammers reportedly willing to offer 17million to seal the deal plus a lucrative pay packet. However, Spurs are not giving Alan Curbishley's side a clear run at the striker and have made an undisclosed bid for his services. Should Spurs beat West Ham to Bent then striker Jermain Defoe's future at the club would be cast even further into doubt.
