The goalkeeper was centre of attention at Villa Park following his nightmare moment in England's loss against Croatia on Wednesday, when Gary Neville's backpass caught a bobble, skipped over Robbo's attempted clearance and into the empty net. There was a fair bit of stick from the home crowd, not least the famous Holte End when the teams changed ends before the start of the game, but if Robbo had any nerves deep down they were surely calmed when Calum Davenport rolled home a tricky-looking back pass inside 30 seconds that he dealt with in typical fashion - controlling and clearing fully 70 yards downfield. His kicking - as always - was exemplary and he produced the save of the match five minutes from time to deny Juan Pablo Angel a winning goal, showing fine reactions to palm out the striker's close-range effort. "It's always the same, you get criticised by people but a lot of them don't know what they are talking about," commented Martin after the 1-1 draw. "What happened could have happened to anyone but Paul Robinson isn't anyone, he's the best goalkeeper in England. "He never makes mistakes like that and it wasn't even a mistake, it was just unfortunate. "The only worry was that he might be a bit nervous, but that wasn't even the case. He's too strong for that and that's why he's the number one.
