Exactly what did the Bobcats give up?
The Bobcats weren’t forthcoming in explaining how the future first-round
pick they now owe the Denver Nuggets is protected. Fortunately, my friend
Chris Tomasson of the Rocky Mountain News got the Nuggets to explain the
terms:
According to the Nuggets, the Bobcats’ pick is ...
Protected through the top 14 in 2009.
--Through the top 12 in 2010.
--Through the top 10 in 2011.
--Through the top 8 in 2012.
--Through the top 3 in 2013.
If the Nuggets haven’t received the pick before that, they get it
unprotected in 2014. Of course, if the Bobcats don’t make the playoffs any
of the next five seasons, the guys who made this trade will be long gone by
2014.
