It was a match of duelling 1-handed backhands, master craftsmenship angles and volleys. Belgian power forehands proved to be the Italian's achilles heel. Justine will play on Sunday against Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei. Schiavone has always pushed Justine, and it was no different today. The very fit Italian started out the match strongly, and more fired up. The first set went on serve with few breakpoints handed out to either player. Points were carved, and tailored to specific manuevers. The Rod Laver Arena crowd were treated to a rarity of two 1-handed backhand female players working on game points from every part of the court. This wasn't a baseline one note match. The first set was very close, but the Henin arsenal collection tilted things in Justine's favor, especially with Belgian power forehands. The Italian also did not have much replies to greater yet, more elegant and more subltle volleys by Justine at times. Justine moved to a 4-1 lead in the second set, but too cool nonchalant points brought the game back into Schiavone's hands. Outstanding sharp winners from the Italian levelled to 4-4, but a few aces and clean winners took Justine from 0-30 down for match point in the final game.
