FED CUP 06 Restoration - Justine In For The Final
20/07/2006:
In a press conference held Thursday July 20 at Limelette, coach Carlos
Rodriguez was happy to announce that a restoration for Justine to the
national FED CUP squad has occurred. Justine will be honoured to help
Belgium gain the trophy. Debates were opened, and truths revealed from
the FED CUP tie last weekend in Ostend leading to a newer greater
understanding with parties involved. The finals will be played on
September 16 and 17 at the Spiroudome in Charleroi against Italy.
Due
to the inclusion of Fed Cup immediately following the US OPEN, a change
has been made to Justine's summer schedule, she will not be playing in
San Diego. Tennis fans of North American hardcourts can see Justine live
in action at the Rogers Cup in Montreal on the week of August 14.
On Thursday, Carlos had invited journalists to a press conference to
talk Fed Cup matters. Here's what he had to say.
"If I struck a big blow with what I said, it was precisely so Justine can
play the FED Cup. Why? Quite simply because I found that she was not
supported enough following her decision not to play the semi-final; a
decision completely justified. It was not supported enough by certain
people from the entourage of the team, but I immediately excluded the
players, who were from the beginning of their own opinions, seperate
from the entourage."
By publishing an official statement Tuesday, Carlos wished to push
various people to take their responsibilities.
"It was the only means that I had so that people react a little bit- it
was to strike strong, unfortunately, I was not mistaken. I did not
received any phone calls for three weeks from the parties involved, but
one hour after my official statement everyone wanted to talk to me. I
waited, and watch certain people take their responsibilities. I estimate
that only half of the responsiblilities have actually been taken, the
ball was passed on again, but that's fine. It was necessary that the
public, which reads the newspapers and watches TV learn how things
occurred. People have a clearer picture of things now, and free to make
a better judgement."
Justine turned away from supporting the team at the FED CUP matches due
to negative local reactions.
"It shocked me. I think that the Belgian public doesn't have a bad
reputation, they would not do something like this. Justine felt rejected
and it gave me much sorrow. She just had a victory with Roland Garros,
Eastbourne, and the finale in Wimbledon. She brought enormous fame to
Belgian tennis in those few weeks. Once again, people forget very quickly
and it's pitiful. In Belgium, the only way that you are listened to and
respected, is to send a bombshell message, and make them aware. People
were unhappy, it's a regrettable saga, and I realize it."
The unavailability of Justine for the semi-finals raised criticisms.
"People still don't understand. And it bothers me a bit because this has
been Justine's health situation for years. When she's not at 100%, Justine
should not play. Let us take a look at this season, she plays well, then in
Indian Wells in semi-final eliminated, and the following week in Miami
fatigued, she loses in a quick two sets to the #89 player in the world. I
don't know what it is? A euphoria of wanting her to keep on playing, and
winning or denial?"
Carlos is also sad that people didn't enjoy the road to the finals of FED
CUP.
"People talked more about Justine's forfeit of her match than the celebration
of Belgium getting a place in the semi-finals. I hope you my friends are
awake, because this will be perhaps something that may never happen again.
There's a bigger picture that people aren't aware of."
Carlos hails Kirsten Flipkens.
"As a coach the second thing that bothered me is how little people talked
about Flipkens' performance. She was only given a mere 10% of the media
coverage for her performance. If there's anyone to owe for the qualification
to the finals, it's Flipkens. In a span of only 5 or 6 days she took on the
role of a number 3 player in the world, and came out stronger. She had to
play against higher ranked, and more physical players, with the occassion,
and the pressures. No one even bothered to mention or celebrate this. I not
only cheer for her, but say thank you. It's everyone's duty to emphasize
this performance because if Kim had at some extent two guranteed match wins,
the real surprise came where it was less expected. I congratulate Flipkens."
The September schedule again features a grand slam followed by FED CUP.
"Yes, she will play. This is not the same situation. Justine never confirmed
that she would play the semi-final of FED CUP because she knew there were
back to back grand slams and three different surfaces. You need to understand
tennis to realize that it's a very difficult task. This situation will be
completely different, Justine will now have five weeks off with no tournaments.
She has removed San Diego from her itinerary. Justine fully understands her
health requirements, and will follow up a grand slam with a FED CUP final,
she'll take her responsibilities, and eliminates one tournament. She will
play only one warm-up event to prepare for the US OPEN, and that will be
Montreal. This will give her a week to recover, and focus on form. If there
are no injuries Justine will play, it's clear, and let me repeat not like the
situation after Wimbledon."
On September 16 and 17 Justine will participate in FED CUP against Italy.
"It was important that Justine again feels welcomed in the team, because she
will sit beside the captain during crucial moments during the matches. It's
important for her to rely on this person. I think that Justine and Carl
arrived at an agreement. The explanation of the coach is satisfactory for
Justine, she has always wanted to play, but only to a team which wants her.
Justine told me after the FED CUP quarter-final match in Liege that she hasn't
felt this great in a long time. She will play, yes above all matters, she
wants to play."

本篇没提到那位主席,似乎一切就都随时间而去。
重点只有:
1.juju会打联邦盃final,因此她将不会参加San Diego的赛事,然後将参加Rogers Cup
Flipkens,Carlos
Final.
