Zaza losing some zip? The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 03/14/06 ‧ ZAZA BACK IN TOWN: Hawks center Zaza Pachulia is facing a far different dilemma this season than he did last season playing for the Bucks, the team the Hawks faced Monday night at the Bradley Center. He had to battle his way through a crowd at big man to play 1,400 minutes as the Bucks' reserve center. He eclipsed that mark over a month ago with the Hawks. He's actually been forced to play a few more minutes (30.7) than Hawks coach Mike Woodson had in mind for the third-year center who spent his first NBA season in Orlando. Jason Collier's death in October threw the entire frontcourt rotation into disarray, leaving unproven talents Esteban Batista and John Edwards to serve as Pachulia's backups. "It's been tough on Zaza," Woodson said. "And he's as physically fit as a guy could be. But we watch the tape, there are times during the game when you look at him and realize that he just doesn't have that zip he needs. And that has to do with the minutes we're playing him. But Z's been our horse inside this year. And I'm not worried about the fatigue. In fact, I think it will benefit him in the long run because his body will be conditioned for the rigors next time around." Pachulia's averaging 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and ranks third in the league in offensive rebounds per game (3.4), a stat he led the league in early in the season. ‧ LANG SIGNS ON FOR ANOTHER 10 DAYS: Pachulia could get some relief in the form of James Lang, if Lang continues to progress the way Woodson and his staff say he has in the past week. He signed a second 10-day contract with the Hawks over the weekend, allowing him a few more days to make an impression and possibly work his way into the rotation. Lang, a 6-foot-10, 285-pound wide body, has yet to see game action with the Hawks. But Woodson said there's a chance he could be needed in the coming days, with games against New York and Utah on deck after Monday night's game with the Bucks. ‧ CHILDRESS AND LUE STILL OUT: The Hawks played without their biggest contributors of the bench yet again Monday night. Both Josh Childress (ankle) and Tyronn Lue (knee) remain in street clothes.
