Decision time on Delk By SEKOU SMITH The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 02/07/06 Hawks coach Mike Woodson said he'll sit down Wednesday and talk with veteran guard Tony Delk and decide if he will join the playing rotation now that Tyronn Lue is out for at least four weeks with a sprained knee. "I'll sit down and talk with Tony and see exactly where he is, and we might have to explore the developmental league," Woodson said. "We'll sit down and evaluate all that and make a decision before we go out west." The Hawks leave for a three-game Western Conference road trip Thursday. Delk hasn't played a minute in a regulation game this season, having been on the inactive list for much of the season. But with Lue out and the Hawks in need of a veteran presence in their backcourt rotation, Delk could be the answer. Another possibility is the return of second-year swingman Donta Smith from the Hawks' NBDL affiliate in Little Rock. Smith was assigned to the D-League on Dec. 2. He can be sent down and brought back up three times in a season. If Smith isn't the answer, Woodson said the Hawks would explore other options as well. But he said no decision would be made before all the possibilities are explored. LUE MAKES APPEARANCE: Lue was back in the building before Tuesday night's game against Detroit, getting a quick dose of treatment on his knee before heading home to watch the game. Since he can't bend his leg, sitting on the bench for the game could have been too hazardous. "If a guy is in the corner and he takes a shot and runs up our bench, I wouldn't be able to get out of the way," Lue said. "I'm not trying to do anything more to this knee." Lue will make the trip west with the team, keeping him in contact with the Hawk' training staff and with his teammates. "I might not be able to play right now," he said, "but I've got to be there for my guys." INJURY NEWS: Lue isn't the only player of interest to the Hawks who is out with an injury. David Andersen, the Hawks' second round draft pick in 2002, recently broke his ankle in two places and will miss the rest of the season with CSKA Moscow. Andersen, a 7-footer the Hawks had hoped to bring to training camp in the fall, was injured during a game that Hawks general manager Billy Knight attended.
