Once again the All-Star Game proves that baseball doesn't value the
contributions of setup men and middle relievers. Although the starters and
closers receive the glory, no team can win without the setup men and middle
relievers. These relievers are usually the lowest paid players on any team.
Hong-Chih Kuo deserves to go to Anaheim representing the Dodgers. Another elbow
problem sidelined Kuo, often plagued with career-threatening arm injuries, for
the beginning of the season. Since he returned to the active roster in April,
he has dominated everyone. He has walked eight and struck out 36 batters.
His ERA is 1.03. No left-handed batter has gotten a hit against Kuo.
Right-handed batters haven't fared much better. Having an experienced setup man,
such as Kuo, would have been an asset to the National League All-Star team.
