Consider a shorten version of the IEEE standard floating with only
12 bits: one sign bit,5 bits for exponent,and 6bits for the significand
(1) Represent 1.5 and -0.75 with this format
(2) What is the rang of numbers it could represent ?(excluding denormalized
numbers.)
(1) Excess-15
1.5= 1.1*2^0 -0.75= -1.1*2^-1
EXP=0+15=15 EXP=15+(-1)=14
