想请问各位大大一篇RC文章的一小部分
Experts have disagreed about where the genus Varanus (monitor lizards)
derived. Since most existing species live in Australia, early researchers
believed that Varanus originated in Australia and subsequently island hopped
westward along the Indo-Australian archipelago.
这边最後一句话subsequently island hopped westward along...的意思看不大懂
想请问这句话该如何解释
