A. there are less than one-quarter that many B. there are fewer than one-quarter as many C. there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount D. the number is less than one-quarter the amount E. it is less than one-quarter of that amount ------------------------------------------------------------ 我们在解 SC 题目时，有个固定流程： 先检查文法，次检查语意，最後看修辞。 在方便时，文法、语意检查可以同时进行；但是修辞一定要摆最後。 根据这个原则，检查答案 (C) 的部分，可以看出有 1. 用字 2. 主词、动词一致 3. 语意 等三个问题 ------------------------------------------------------------ 1-1. 用字 amount 或 number 关於 amount 的用法，已经在前面发文讨论过，在此不再赘述。不过 要特别说明的是：这里的 amount 後面并没有接 of... 所以之前发 文所述的问题，与此处并不相同。 根据题意，(C) 的 that amount 是要用来替换 4000 这个数字，所 以应该选的字是 number 而非 amount。也就是该用 that number。 此处的 that 是指示形容词，用来指前面出现过的数字，所以 that 本身没有问题。 ------------------------------------------------------------ 1-2. 用字 fewer 或 less 不论答案 (C) 用 number 还是 amount，这两个字本身在此都是单数 。因此，加上了 one-quarter 之後， one-quater of that number 仍然是单数。所以前面要加上「小於」时，应该用 less 而非 fewer less than one-quarter of that number ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. 主词、动词一致 由於 less than one-quarter of that number 算单数，所以原来 (C) 用 there are, 就犯了主词、动词不一致的错误。应该改成 there is ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. 语意 修改过後的 (C) 加上原文的 but today 成为 but today there is less than one-quarter of that number 而这样的写法，则犯了语意不明的错误。 关於语意不明的问题，可以试着将这句翻译出来便可理解： 「不过今日有不到四分之一的那个数字」 ------------------------------------------------------------ 结论： 答案 (C) 至少错了三处，因此当然被淘汰出局了。 以上，提供各位参考 谢忠理 [email protected] http://oketw.blogspot.tw --
