From the start of production, director Isao Takahata wanted to cast appropriately aged children in the roles of Seita and Setsuko. Because the film takes place in Kobe, the search was limited to the Kansai region of Japan in order to find children that spoke the proper dialect. He was introduced to Ayano Shiraishi through a regional children's acting company, and decided to cast her as Setsuko after only hearing two sentences: "My name is Ayano Shriraishi. I am five years old." He was later told by one of the company's leaders that they expected Ayano was too young for the role, and so those were the only lines she had been instructed to recite in the audition. 从制作一开始，高畑勲就想要选择年龄符合的小孩来诠释清太与节子。因为 影片的场景是在神户，选角时只有找当地腔调符合的关西区小孩。经由当地 的儿童演艺公司，导演认识了shiraishi ayano(汉字不熟 XD)，并在听了「 我的名字是 shiraishi ayano。今年五岁。」这两句话後决定采用他当节子 的配音员。事後导演经由那时的公司领导人之一得知，由於 ayano 的年纪 对那个角色太小，公司内并没预料到他会脱颖而出，所以只有教他说那两句 话而已。 通译完了 XD --
