The 19-year-old was forced to come back from 3-0 down after losing his first service game but battled back to take the first set 7-2 in the tie-break. The second set went with serve until the final game when Murray broke with a volley into an open court. Murray will now meet Italian Andreas Seppi in the quarter-finals. Seppi reached the last eight thanks to a surprise 7-5 7-5 victory over Slovakian second seed Dominik Hrbaty. Janko Tipsarevic later beat Thailand's seventh seed Paradorn Srichaphan 6-7 7-6 5-7 to set up a clash with Sweden's Robin Soderling to complete an all-unseeded quarter-final line-up. Soderling enjoyed the easiest victory of the day with a 6-3 6-2 success over Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. Reigning champion Richard Gasquet made light work of Italian Daniele Bracciali 7-5 6-3 and now meets fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon. Simon was taken to three sets by Czech Jan Vacek, who had disposed of number one seed Thomas Johansson in the first round. Two-time former champion Jonas Bjorkman, 34, brushed aside another Czech in Jiri Vanek, winning 6-3 6-3. The Swede now faces Spaniard Feliciano Lopez who battled past American Paul Goldstein 3-6 6-2 6-3. Murray, meanwhile, who had been struggling for form coming into this event , looked to be on his way out after going 3-0 and 4-1 down in the first set. Once I got a handle on his serves I was in a position to win Andy Murray But the Scot got used to the blustery conditions and levelled the set at 4-4 after breaking the big-serving Mirnyi in the seventh game. There was a brief scare in the 11th game when he slipped on the greasy surface but unlike his first-round tie, he did not need treatment and was able to take the set after dominating the tie-break. The second set was pretty routine until the final game when Murray delivered the last of his numerous perfectly placed lobs to give him match point. He sealed victory on the next after bringing Mirnyi into the net with a drop shot which was returned but left Murray with an easy volley. "It was tough," said Murray. "It was so windy in the first set and at the start of the second. I went a break down early on but did well to come back. "It was so difficult to get in on his service game because he got so many first serves in but once I got a handle on his serves I was in a position to win. "I played a few nice shots. It was a pretty good performance apart from a few backhands." Murray said there were a number of reasons for his improved form since last week, when he was knocked out of the Stella Artois Championships at Queen's Club in the first round by Tipsarevic. "Last week was an unacceptable performance," said the Scot. "That was a combination of me not playing well, my attitude on court not being great and generally just playing a negative game. "So far I've had an aggressive attitude here, while I've also been much more laid-back because I know I'm playing the right way.
