LOTHLORIEN 一开始 Lothlorien和The Mirror of Galadriel这两章是合在一起的 不过Christopher会分开介绍 在剧情计画中 Lothlorien里并没有安排Galadriel和Celeborn 而且Boromir试图夺取魔戒的地点在Blackroot和Anduin两河之间的Angle Lothlorien的精灵原本住树上 矮人引出山里的邪恶後改为穴居 和Mirkwood里的精灵一样 原稿景色描写比较简单 好几次东西方搞错 对话偶有多一句少一句 但是大意都差不多 Mirror-mere那边 LR中Gimli只喊了Frodo一起去看 去的只有Gimli、Frodo、Sam 原稿中Gimli虽只找了Frodo 但有说想去的都一起来 於是除了Frodo主仆之外还多了Legolas 原稿中Trotter只有远远指了Lothlorien的方向说我们天黑之前要到达 LR里是Legolas说的 还介绍了Lothlorien的美丽 Frodo和Sam因伤落後 原稿中本来都没有描写到Sam受伤的事 这里是第一次 另外 稿子中直接写到Trotter转回来关切 但是Trotter当时无法做甚麽 只能再走一程到小溪边休息上药 Frodo和Sam还踩到苔石滑倒了 LR中安排Legolas先发现两人落後再提醒Aragorn 也许这边落後比较多 Aragorn让其他人停下 带着Boromir转回来 尽管仍然要等到溪边才能敷药 但Aragorn和Boromir会把两人背过去 原稿中Frodo虽不情愿 还是自己解下外衣露出秘银甲 Gimli多说了一句"Bilbo救了你的命" Merry没有插话说希望能告诉Bilbo LR里面Frodo更加抗拒 结果是坚持上药的Aragorn把衣服脱下来的 Gimli对秘银甲的评论也更多 之前两份版本没相差非常多 原稿中少的不过是这里一句那里一句 但是溪边这一段所有景色描写一概没有 其他烧水准备食物的叙述全无 对伤口的解说也是极为简短 接下来的原稿就比较像流水笔记而非本文了 对白都省略 叙述他们进入Lothlorien 在树上躲过Orcs一夜之後才遇到Wood-elves 再一起去到两河交会的angle那边Wood-elves的居处 後面又忽然跳回刚进入Lothlorien时Frodo告诉Gimli有脚步声的地方 文字完整地和LR只有几个用字有差异 Christopher说 Tolkien大约在写到Frodo与Sam落後时开始另外誊一份fair copy 然後在赶上进度时用铅笔继续写下进入Lothlorien的剧情 写到Frodo和Gimli对话结束 Legolas叹息现在Lothlorien是冬天为止 然後擦掉铅笔笔迹用墨水重写在原来的地方(或是不擦直接覆写) 写完後再回到旧原稿这里继续下去 以後这种先写铅笔再用墨水盖过去的写法会很常用 此时Aragorn和Arwen与Lothlorien的因缘还没有建立 所以Gimli那句"如果精灵还存在"的话最初是Aragorn说的 没错 就是Aragorn 终於在原稿中是以这个名字登场而不是Trotter Gandalf会用这个名字叫他 其他会用到时就是强调出身的Aragorn son of XXX 原稿中叙述他做了甚麽时总是用Trotter 但是Lothlorien这一章里面先是Aragorn对Gandalf道别时用了一次 这里又用了一次 後面一段也都这样用 不知道Strider甚麽时候会出现呢 Legolas提到"Angle"时说了： Angle, Bennas between Blackroot and Anduin Bennas 字根Ben是Noldorin里面corner, angle的意思 nass则有point, angle的意思 Galadriel的设定当然也还没有出现 所以Boromir和Aragorn之间关於另寻路途和危险森林的对话也就没有了 小溪Nimrodel的名字： Taiglin/Linglor→Linglorel/Nimladel→Nimlorel→Nimrodel (Tanglin是第一纪元Beleriand河流Sirion的支流) Legolas的Amroth之歌中女主角名字 Inglorel→Linglorel→Nimladel→Nimlorel→Nimlothel→Nimrodel 差不多到hobbits在树上睡觉时 Nimrodel这个名字就正式定下来了 男主角Ammalas→Amaldor→Amroth 提到这首歌是翻译过来的时候 Common Speech(通用语)这个名词第一次出现 LR这个段落中用的是Common Speech的正式名称Westron Speech 歌词前六段几乎和LR一样(除了名字是Nimlothel) 说到灰色港湾的精灵船在等她 (LR里Lothlorien的精灵不是从灰港启航 而是Anduin河口的Belfalas 但是这个设定後面才确立 港湾是哪个港湾也就不知道了) 接下来： A wind awoke in Northern lands and loud it blew and free, and bore the ship from Elven-strands across the shining sea. Beyond the waves the shores were grey, the mountains sinking low; as salt as tears the driving spray the wind a cry of woe. When Amroth saw the fading shore beyond the heaving swell he cursed the faithless. ship that bore him far from Nimlothel. An Elven-lord he was of old before the birth of men when first the boughs were hung with gold in fair Lothlorien. (这一段另一个版本： An Elven-lord he was of old when all the woods were young and in Lothlorien with gold the boughs of trees were hung.) 之後第11和13段和FR是一样的 第12段如下： The foam was in his flowing hair, a light about him shone; afar they saw the waves him bear as floats the northern swan. LR版本： An Elven-maid there was of old, A shining star by day: Her mantle white was hemmed with gold, Her shoes of silver-grey. A star was bound upon her brows, A light was on her hair As sun upon the golden boughs In Lórien the fair. Her hair was long, her limbs were white, And fair she was and free; And in the wind she went as light As leaf of linden-tree. Beside the falls of Nimrodel, By water clear and cool, Her voice as falling silver fell Into the shining pool. Where now she wanders none can tell, In sunlight or in shade; For lost of yore was Nimrodel And in the mountains strayed. The elven-ship in haven grey Beneath the mountain-lee Awaited her for many a day Beside the roaring sea. A wind by night in Northern lands Arose, and loud it cried, And drove the ship from elven-strands Across the streaming tide. When dawn came dim the land was lost, The mountains sinking grey Beyond the heaving waves that tossed Their plumes of blinding spray. Amroth beheld the fading shore Now low beyond the swell, And cursed the faithless ship that bore Him far from Nimrodel. Of old he was an Elven-king, A lord of tree and glen, When golden were the boughs in spring In fair Lothlórien. From helm to sea they saw him leap, As arrow from the string, And dive into the water deep, As mew upon the wing. The wind was in his flowing hair, The foam about him shone; Afar they saw him strong and fair Go riding like a swan. But from the West has come no word, And on the Hither Shore No tidings Elven-folk have heard Of Amroth evermore. Tolkien又开始了笔记： 不一样的有几个小地方 Legolas描述Galadrim的屋子[→Galadhrim(The Tree People)] Frodo看到Gollum想爬上树 精灵搭上箭时被Frodo阻止了 危机感很强的Gollum逃走 LR中是Frodo看到Gollum爬树又逃走 Haldir上来後才知道Gollum逃跑是因为Haldir靠近碰到树干 完整的叙述从Legolas唱完歌开始 关於Amroth跳海的部分原稿中Legolas有说 LR大概是因为歌词中都写了就不重复了 倒是多了风会带着两人的声音沿着河流回荡的片段 出现好几次的名字Aragorn被注记要改成Elfstone Legolas爬树时被Haldir挡下 Daro = stop, halt 另一个比较早的版本的描述： 一行人找到一群很高的树 最低的枝干连Boromir也构不到 但他们带着绳子 一端抛上树枝後Legolas就上去探路 说接近顶端的树冠中有地方可以歇息 但是他在邻近的树上看到平台 也许精灵们仍然会来 此时上方才传来精灵语 而Frodo听不懂精灵对话的原因在这里是因为东方精灵的语言比较古老 不像山脉以西的精灵用common speech (其他版本以及LR中只有说东西方精灵的语言不太一样所以听不懂 并没有说比较古老 而且这里common speech的意思显然和LR的设定冲突 是西方精灵通用语) 刚开始精灵是要求他们三人一群分别上不同的树 很快改成LR那样要Frodo与Legolas先上去 其他人在下面等 Haldir的名字：Hathaldir 兄弟Rúmil and Orophinl： Orfin→Orofin Rhimbron→Romrin→Rhomrin Hathaldir说他们从来没听说过或看过hobbits (但後面又提到传言北方过了半身人的领地仍有安全的港湾) LR中说他们很久没有hobbits, or halflings的消息了 也不知道hobbits是否仍然存在於中土世界 还有一个版本是三人都不会西方语的Rhimbron, Rhimlath→Rhimdir, and Haldir 当Haldir名字确定後 Hathaldir变成第一纪元中Beren父亲Barahir的同伴 原稿中当Hathaldir问起他们有多少人 Legolas不但直接就把矮人列出来 Gandalf的殒落也一起说了 旁边加上注记要把Gandalf的消息延後告知 Hathaldir拒绝让矮人通过时 Frodo辩解说Gimli是Elrond也熟知的精灵之友(elf-friend) LR里则是说他是孤山的Dáin的族人 与Elrond交好 (若真是"Elrond也熟知的精灵之友" 表示是别的精灵让他成为elf-friend 以当时的种族背景不太可能找到比Elrond对矮人更友善的精灵了 矮人们也不会主动去结交一堆精灵 再说远征队里以elf-friend的身份被介绍的 LR中只有Aragorn Gimli和他并列的话很奇怪) 另外 Merry告诉Frodo其他行李被Aragorn藏起来时 他是直呼Aragorn这个名讳 印象中LR里Sam, Merry, Pippin一般是称呼他Strider 但这里并没有用到Tolkien一直没有戒掉的Trotter 精灵的平台在原稿中似乎是没有入口开洞的 要从边缘爬上去 Pippin在睡前说的 I hope, if I do go to sleep in this bed-loft, that I shan't roll off. 其实在原稿中是bird-loft 似乎是别人做的打字稿中打错了 就一直留存到出版 写到Gollum接近的段落 Tolkien原本让Hathaldir先上树弯弓瞄准 然後Frodo才往下看 但马上改成等Gollum走了Hathaldir才回来 虽然笔记里写了Frodo阻止精灵射箭甚麽的 Hathaldir回来後还是说不知名生物在他碰到树干时跑掉了 需要架绳桥的河流Morthond 与Blackroot同是Silverlode备用名称 原先 三个精灵里Orfin在前一晚orc经过时先回去报信 早上Tolkien就让Hathaldir领路 Rhimbron留守平台 现在发现需要有人在那边收绳子 就让Rhimbron同行到河流为止 看到Hathaldir示范的单绳过桥 Legolas在LR中说他可以这样走 其他人却不行 原稿里Legolas说他也必须很小心 因为Mirkwood里没有这项技艺 渡河过程LR比较简略 只说Pippin敏捷快速且单手扶绳 但是眼睛盯着对岸不敢往下看 Sam手握得死紧慢慢挪动 还畏惧地看下面的流水 原稿中说Aragorn缓慢先行 Pippin轻盈快速只扶单手 Merry想跟他较劲却滑了一下吊在水上 Sam跟在Frodo後面慢慢挪动 畏惧地看下面的流水 Gimli和Boromir押队 (Legolas呢？) 过河後来到Blackroot(Silverlode)和Anduin之间的angle LR：the Naith of Lórien or the Gore 原稿：the Gore, Nelen we call it. Gore：三角形地带(英文) Nel-：three 更早写成Nelennas nass = point, angle 後来Nelennas用来称呼城市Caras Galadon 还有一个版本说： Narthas or the Gore as you would say, for it is the land that lies like a spear-head 这是说gore = Old English的gara = an angular point of land Gara 又和gar相关 意思是spear 原稿中Pippin告诉Haldir精灵港湾在Shire旁边 Haldir很有兴趣 但Pippin没去过因此无法形容给他 LR中这是Merry的戏份 大约在这时候 Tolkien决定Blackroot和Silverlode调换名称 让Blackroot变成更南边的一条河 Silverlode从最早的Redway→Blackroot/Morthond最终成为Silverlode 矮人名字Buzundush→Kibilnala 精灵称呼它为Celebrind/Celebrath LR中它的精灵名是Celebrant Rant- = lode, vein LR里大家蒙眼过了一日夜之後遇到往北方防守的部队 他们带来之前的orcs都已歼灭的消息 以及目击到不明生物的报告 由Haldir转告大家 原稿中没有过夜 消息是Legolas翻译的 还有一个小小的桥段没有放进来： 'What is this?' said one of the Elves, looking in wonder at Legolas. 'By his raiment of green and brown [?he is an] Elf of the North. Since when have we taken our kindred prisoner, Hathaldir? ' 'I am not a prisoner,' said Legolas. 'I am only showing the dwarf how to walk straight without the help of eyes.' 後面的剧情计画很简略和破碎 所以只有大约介绍一下： 描述Cerin Amroth 和a green snowdrop 精灵文nifred/nifredil 根据字根表中所列 nifred = pallor, fear nifredil = snowdrop 同时nieninqe 'white tear' = snowdrop Cerin Amroth上的白花後来就叫niphredil 一度让Hathaldir在Cerin Amroth问起第九人(Gandalf)的下落 从一见面就说推迟到这里 最後才决定要等到城市里 终於出现Lothlorien的统治者 这时没有名字 只有Lord and Lady 和white council有关 白衣白发 眼神锐利如同星光化成的长枪 远征队离开Lothlorien後 在Stonehills分开 故事叙述又从解下眼罩开始 Cerin Amroth旧名Coron Amroth/Kerin Amroth Coron和Cerin都是Noldorin(诺多精灵文) Cerin又等於Quenya的Korin = circular enclosure 但另一方面Cerin Amroth = mound of Amroth Tolkien後来把它翻译成circular mound or artificial hill 黄花elanor 有考虑另一个名字yri 白花niphredil 这时候叫nifredil 爬上Cerin Amroth时Frodo眺望Anduin并看到Dol Dugol Dol Dugol→Dol Dughul也就是後来的Dol Guldur 是Sauron化名Necromancer时代在Mirkwood南方的据点 虽然这是The Hobbits时的事情 The Hobbits里一次都没有具体说到这个地名 一直都是Necromancer的地牢什麽的 这时候的Aragorn是第一次来Lothlorien 他在山丘下的回忆自然就没有出现了 Aragorn的名字变化非常混乱 Tolkien写得很快所以改不完全 Aragorn→Ingold Elfstone→Ingold Ingold→Elfstone 最後 Christopher提到有一些铅笔写的注记： ─Balrog能不能是Saruman？让Gandalf和Saruman在桥上战斗？ 然後Gandalf……披上白袍 ─如果Galadriel只有一个人而且是Elrond的妻子？ ─Elf-rings……如果One-Ring毁了，Elf-rings的力量也将失去 这些文字被划掉了 有些完全没有采用 有些蛛丝马迹仍然在之後的情节中找得到 --
