Top spot Ferreira made his name with Porto's Liga rivals SL Benfica, where he was assistant coach and then head coach from the beginning of 2001/02 until the start of the following season. He subsequently led SC Braga into Europe during a three-year spell there, before briefly taking charge at Boavista FC this summer from where he defected to Porto.
