The pitch was slick and a little soggy in places thanks to the recent downpours that have lashed Portugal and the play suffered accordingly. Paulo Bento's squad went on raring to score, but Helton pulled off a great save to deny an insistent Paredes. FC Porto answered through Quaresma's diagonal shot and Liedson almost took advantage of a misunderstanding between Helton and Bruno Alves, but the defender managed to deflect the shot wide to oohs from the terraces. Just as it seemed it was be goalless at the break, Sporting opened their account as Nani served a precise cross for Yannick (43 min), left totally unmarked in a real gaffe by the Dragoes' rearguard, to rise and guide into Helton's net. FC Porto came out and squared things off very quickly as Quaresma (47 min) banged home the result of a scrabble in the Leoes area, Tello's acrobatic efforts to block the ball to no avail.
