Tuesday, 31 May 2005
FC Sochaux-Montbeliard and Tunisia striker Francileudo Santos has signed a

one year remaining on his contract. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.
The Brazilian-born Santos, who also won the CAF African Nations Cup with
Tunisia in 2004, becomes Toulouse's second summer signing after Guinean

match against Toulouse in aid of research into brain diseases and the
victims of the industrial disaster that hit the city in 2001. The game at
the Stadium de Toulouse raised €600,000 and was the idea of goalkeeper
Fabien Barthez. "It is always a great moment when we play together," said
Zinedine Zidane. Only the United States-based Youri Djorkaeff was absent

Serbo-Montenegrin international midfielder Dragan Mladenovic has returned
to Scottish champions Rangers FC after Real Sociedad de Futbol decided
against signing him permanently following a six-month loan at the Spanish
club. Mladenovic made eleven appearances (six as a substitute) for Real,
but they will not pay the stipulated €700,000 for the 29-year-old former
FK Crvena Zvezda player, who has three years left on his Rangers contract.
German Bundesliga returnees 1. FC Koln have signed striker Anthony Lurling
on a three-year contract. The 28-year-old Dutchman was released by Feyenoord
last week, having spent the season on loan at NAC Breda where he played 29
league games. At Koln he is expected to partner 19-year-old German
international Lukas Podolski.
Meanwhile, Werder Bremen have handed reserve goalkeeper Kasper Jensen a new
three-year deal. The 22-year-old Dane will join the first-team squad and
provide competition for senior goalkeepers Andreas Reinke and Tim Wiese,
the latter newly signed from 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
FC Stal Alchevsk and FC Arsenal Kharkiv have won promotion to Ukraine's
Premier League. After rivals FC Zorya Luhansk lost to FC Dynamo-2 Kyiv,
Zorya can prepare to join the elite for the second time in their history.
Arsenal Kharkiv, meanwhile, have travelled from amateur to top-flight status
in three years. Relegated FC Obolon Kyiv and FC Borysfen Boryspil make way
for them.
Norwegian league leaders IK Start have cancelled midfielder Alex Nyarko's
contract after the Ghanaian missed the team's flight to Oslo for yesterday's
game at Valerenga IF. The 31-year-old had played just 52 minutes as a
substitute since joining Start at the beginning of the season. "He has put
himself ahead of the team and we cannot accept that. That is why we are
letting him go," said Start coach Tom Nordlie.
It has also been a busy day in Greece, where AEK Athens FC have completed
the signing of central defender Georgios Alexopoulos on a free transfer
from Egaleo FC. The 28-year-old has agreed a three-year contract.
The Athens club have also extended the contracts of goalkeeper Dionysios
Hiotis and defender Christos Kontis, both for two more years, and released
goalkeeper Chrysostomos Mihailidis, winger Sotirios Konstantinidis and
midfield player Ivan Rusev.
Kallithea FC have appointed Stojko Mladenov as their coach for the next
season. The 48-year-old Bulgarian has put pen to paper on a one-year
contract, with the option for a further season, to replace Panagiotis
Lemonis. Apollon Kalamarias FC president Ilias Damilos, meanwhile, has
announced that Dragan Kokotovic will continue as head coach in 2005/06.
