Invariably substituted in his early appearances, he has adjusted his game to suit the team's passing philosophy, but while his performances have improved, transfer speculation seems to suggest that a summer switch away from Catalunya remains a possibility. Adriano has often been found wanting in possession, and his delivery from wide areas has been less than inspiring. Guardiola may be in the market for another left-back option in the summer if his performances fail to muster any kind of consistency. The tactician sees the 24-year-old as an alternative to David Villa on the left of the front three, but he has taken time to establish himself at the Camp Nou. Of his leagu appearances, only one has been from the start, and in that match against Sporting he was replaced at half-time after an ineffectual 45 minutes. The former PSV man is likely to prove to be a useful squad player in the long term, but los Cules have yet to see the best of the pacey attacker. As a result, the additions of Adriano, Afellay and Mascherano have enjoyed minimal impact on the successes of the first team, with long-established figures such as Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi carrying the team to victory. With Barca looking to tighten their belts in the transfer market, activity in the summer could well be restricted to finally securing the signature of Cesc Fabregas.
