Hi celestial09, If you did not apply for the internship, there is absolutely no reason that they should contact you. And if somebody (say a professor of yours) had recommended you for the position, they should've also told you that in this letter or at least you should've heard it from the professor, right? You shouldn't be left in the dark wondering why there is such a letter. To me, this is a red alarm, so please, verify the authenticity of such a letter, do it independently, you need to make sure this is not a scam. (At least you did send them your resume didn't you? or otherwise how did they assess your candidacy?) Does the letter ask you to wire them money? So calm down, suppose this is the real deal. And suppose you applied for the internship position and all you have to do now as a candidate is to decide whether you would accept this wonderful learning opportunity. Congratulations, you've got a job, and you deserve it. Remember, they HAVE ALREADY DECIDED that you are fit for the position, otherwise they wouldn't have contacted you. Don't tell yourselves "NOs" now and wonder "WHAT IFs" later. What does one have to lose? Talk about this with your professors, And I wish you the best of luck. --
