I think this is a smart analysis and a very good way to exchange idea. With this post I learn much from you, not only from English, but also the originality of the idea. Below I am merely sharing my thoughts, not disputing or arguing with you, as arguing is not my expertise. :P As Confucious says, 仓廪实而知礼节，衣食足而知荣辱 After struggling for thousands of years from mere survival to evolve into a more formal society, morality seemingly exceeds it's "sophisticated Ape" nature. The frontal cortex maturely developed, and our brain began to think about metaphysical concepts, beyond mere survival. Human evolution should be pushed forward, not backwardly tracing to the ancient hunter-gatherer society. The babarian nature does not make us any good. It is only good for ONESELF. Heresy makes heros, but those heros who brought progress and push us forward in human history, are never Mao or Hitler or any murdere. They only produce damages. When the entire gene pools are distinct and killed by certain selfish people, the diversity decreses, and the creativity decline. That's why the murderer should be sentenced. This concept transforms to morality. Also, endless compassion does not gurantee survival. My motto is that as long as it does not harm me to much, I want to try to be as decent as possible. I believe there's intrinsic values that are universal. That's why your mom won't kill you. Maybe she wants to preserve her genes by her selfish nature, but you can't deny her sacrifices and compassion for you, otherwise if she's plain selfish she can just throw you on any garbage can and enjoy a happy and burdenless life herself. I was an atheist before too. I never believe in God although I have high moral standards. I don't think I am smart enough to use math or philosopy to prove God's existence, yet I can feel it spiritually. It is a concept of perfect state of mind I try to Obtain. I won't try to change your idea but I think it's a good way to communicate and exchange values.
