※ 引述《Chioushiyan (留不住的她)》之铭言: : About Politics In Taiwan : It is said that Taiwanese people are keen on politics, : especially when the election comes, everyone discuss : the candidates he or she supports, and even more volunteer : for them. You can see that Taiwanese society is inundated : with a large amount of call-in shows where there are always : some so-called experts give passionate but not so practical : commentary on any kinds of events of politics in Taiwan. : However, it is true that they also play a pivotal role in : monitoring the authorities sometimes. It is really : a double-edged sword for our society. : There are two main political parties and several less significant : smaller parties in Taiwan. The most key ones are KMT and DPP. : KMT once lost its power then became the opposition during the : past eight years but it won the election last year so that it : came back to rule the country now. Nowadays, the leader of KMT, : Mr. Ma Yin-jiou,is also the President of Taiwan but I think his : role is a bit different from the President of the United States : as he, as a matter of fact, doesn’t have to be responsible for : all the policies the government made while we also have a : “secretary of Executive Yuan” who is assigned by the President : and more like the Prime Minister of a constitutional monarchy. : Having said that. the President still has a great influence on : politics so that it became a weird political structure that : the President is elected by the people and partially responsible : for policies but can hardly be blamed actually whereas the : secretary of Executive Yuan has to dismiss the Cabinet. : Most of representatives in Taiwan do not have strong political : belief but only care about how to serve local people and how to : get more votes in the next election;therefore some candidates : would easily change his political identity to pursue a chance : to be nominated. : Furthermore, one more feature of Taiwanese politics is that the : demarcation between different political belief is not so obvious. : It is easy to find a socialist politician in a right-wing-like : party in Taiwan. What’s more, the reason that people decided which : party to support is just according to the party’s position about : independence of Taiwan. Taiwan’s situation is a debatable issue : in Taiwan since that being independent or getting reunion with : mainland China are definitely world-apart ideas. Some : people still believe that Taiwan should and will finally become a : part of China in the coming future while also a large number of : people regard it as a fable. : In my opinion, Taiwan has been separated from mainland China for : hundreds of years. The culture and the way people live has diverged : hugely. You can easily tell the difference between people from both areas. : Owing to that, I think it has become more and more impossible to force : people in Taiwan to choose reunion or not.The more appropriate way to solve : the dilemma is to respect the people’s wish and promote the cultural : communication and interaction between mainland China and Taiwan. I disputed about this topic with my friends before. None of us wants to be a citizen of China. But somehow we also douted about Taiwan's sovereignty. In my opinion, this is a question about honor. Whether you feel honored to be in this country indicates how you define "Taiwan". I can't deny this is my hometown and I have loved ones here. I beleive Taiwan is really a "country" different from China, but I'm not sure I totally love this island. Speaking of this, let's single out the controversial case about a lawmaker who has dual nationality. I still can't figure out why it needs so much blaming. It's really unfair to consider a person "unloyal" about his country in this modern world just because he/she is also a citizen of other country. Why not have a little more tolerance and the sense of global villages? Whether it's a country, whether one has several nationality, all of these are meaningless cuz the most important is the beautiful life. Anywhere can be your country if it gives you a better life. That's why I hesitate to admit I love Taiwan. Polluted environment, fighting lawmakers, fake politic demogogue, cultural discrimination, brutal education system. Do I love Taiwan? I don't know. Do you? It's not the best, but I wish it is. --
