I usually watch CNN during meals but I don't take them too seriously. CNN had a good reputation, but recently it's becoming less reliable and sometimes even inappropriate. For example, about a week ago, Ex-president Bill Clinton went to North Korea and brought back 2 reporters using some diplomatic methods (which of course was not disclosed). Later, when Hilary Clinton was attending some kind of a forum in Africa(if I remember correctly), she was asked about what her husband thought about the current issue (not related to the North Korean incident). Hilary's reaction was somewhat irritated and expressed that she is the Secretary of State (I think? sorry my memory always sux orz), and that the question should be directed to relevant issues and not about her husband. Anyway, the US media networks jumped on this event and all reported that "Hilary lost her cool or snapped, blablabla". Among those paparazi-like media, CNN was part of it and I was not impressed by their attitude. I mean, I'm not a woman and even I feel that Hilary was asked an inappropriate question, and the media (including CNN) had to focus on her anger just to make the matter more unfair. That was only one example. And then there's always the dramatic and repetitive style that CNN often used in their recent years. I admit that CNN is a lot less dramatic compared to Taiwanese news channels, but if you watch CNN closely, then you can also notice that they tend to put a lot of resources in popular events (ex MJ's death and follow-ups), but the result is that they often ended up standing by for nothing to happen or reporting trivial details when there are countless other events that they can report (ex the incident in XinJiang that resulted in thousands of death). In conclusion, I think CNN has become relatively unprofessional. ps: If you are interested in reading materials(English), I think most of the printing media are pretty good. Newspapers usually provide more in-depth coverage (ie listing data and giving multiple sides of the argument). Sadly, some newspapers in Taiwan have become so political that they not only they limit their coverage to support their side, but sometimes they also manipulate or even distort the events. In my opinion, they should be ashamed for themselves because spreading false information (and sometimes even intentionally) is nothing less than a crime against reporting news.
