2015 MLB team preview: Los Angeles Dodgers The Los Angeles Dodgers won their second straight NL West title last year, but a quick exit from the postseason led to a front office overhaul in the offseason. Ex-Rays GM Andrew Friedman was lured -- thanks to a massive five-year, $35 million contract -- away from Tampa Bay and installed as the new president of baseball operations. Friedman then brought in a new GM (Farhan Zaidi) and helped orchestrate a roster remake over the winter. The veteran Peralta seems like the most obvious candidate to assume closer duties in Jansen's absence, but Mattingly could opt for a closer by committee and use Howell against tough lefties in the ninth inning. (League has closer experience too, remember.) With Jansen on the shelf, righties Pedro Baez and Dustin McGowan are candidates to join the roster. Kershaw is as good as any pitcher since peak Pedro Martinez, so good that he's overshadowed Greinke's consistent excellence the last two years. (Seriously, when was the last time a pitcher went 32-12, 2.68 across two seasons and got talked about as little as Greinke?) Ryu is among the best No. 3 starters in the game -- 28-15, 3.17 in his two MLB seasons -- and rounds out a tremendous front three. Not so much Kershaw, Greinke and Ryu -- though Greinke needed a lubrication injection for his elbow before camp and Ryu recently missed a few days with back issues -- but McCarthy and Anderson. McCarthy threw 200 innings for the first time in his career in 2014 after visiting the DL with an arm injury at least once every year from 2007-13. Most of those arm injuries were shoulder problems. Anderson has thrown only 206 1/3 innings total over the last four years, including only 43 1/3 last year. Beachy is already on the 60-day DL, meaning he won't be able to help until the end of April at the earliest. He is expected to be out longer than that though.
