http://0rz.net/891Rf 09/09/2006 10:30 PM ET Notes: Batista would like to return Hurler will explore options as a free agent this offseason By Steve Gilbert / MLB.com PHOENIX -- Miguel Batista would like to return to the Diamondbacks in 2007, but he's not sure it's going to be up to him. The veteran right-hander is in the final year of a three-year contract and will be a free agent at the end of the season. "Of course I want to come back," he said. "At what price is the question. This is my career, and it's not something I take lightly. ... If I have a better opportunity to go somewhere else for a good price, then I have to do what's best for me." Batista, who is 10-6 with a 4.44 ERA this year, was acquired along with Orlando Hudson by Arizona in an offseason deal that sent Troy Glaus to Toronto. This is Batista's second stint with the D-Backs. He went 29-28 from 2001-2003 before signing a free-agent contract with the Blue Jays. "When I was here before, they let me go, so I had to leave anyway even if I wanted to stay," he said. "I'm going to wait in the offseason to see what I can do." Whether to re-sign Batista is just one of the many decisions the D-Backs face this offseason, and general manager Josh Byrnes declined to get into speculation about any of them. "While we always keep an eye towards the future, we've still got three weeks left in the season and that remains our focus at this point," Byrnes said. "There will be plenty of time to make those decisions during the offseason." If it ain't broke: D-Backs manager Bob Melvin on Saturday used the same lineup he did in Friday's 13-1 win. "Why not?" he said. "We don't score 13 runs very often, or whatever it was, so we'll run them back out there." The last time the D-Backs had scored in double digits was the first game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Aug. 3. And in the five games prior to Friday the D-Backs scored a total of 14 runs. Close encounters: On an off-day last month, veteran outfielder Luis Gonzalez and his two daughters got a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Phoenix Zoo. "It was amazing," Gonzalez said. "We had a great time. It was a great way for me to spend the off-day with the girls." The Gonzalez family got the opportunity to feed several animals, including the elephants. "I've never gotten to do something like that, so I was cutting in front of my kids to do it," Gonzalez said with a laugh. Another day: Shortstop Stephen Drew was out of the starting lineup again Saturday after missing Friday's game due to a groin injury as well as a fever. "His groin is a little bit of a problem," Melvin said. "He's getting better as far as his illness. Good chance he'll be in there tomorrow. [He's] useable today if I needed to." Speaking of which: Catcher Johnny Estrada also missed his second consecutive game. Estrada was hit on the right forearm by a pitch Thursday night. He is expected to be back in the lineup on Sunday. Maybe, maybe not: Right-hander Edgar Gonzalez may get another chance to start this year. Gonzalez was on the losing end of Wednesday's no-hitter in Florida, but he pitched well in the game. "We'll have a decision for you on that probably early next week," Melvin said. Going to a six-man rotation down the stretch is "not likely," Melvin said.
