ALBACETE GET MOMO, RUBEN AND JAIME Finally there is clarity concerning the cases of Momo, Ruben and Jaime, as the official website of Deportivo announced that the three of them will play the season 2004/2005 at Albacete Balompie. This almost certainly indicates that the Galician club will sign new players themselves. Youngsters Momo (22) and Ruben (23) are talented without a doubt, but its questionable if they are able to keep up or increase the level of a team having finished among the final four in Europe last season. Both players probably would have stayed had Deportivo missed out on playing Champions League football. Now they’ll have one season of playing a lot in the Primera Division, and to return to Galicia in 2005. A deal with Albacete already was reached some weeks ago when there were negotiations about defender Pablo Ibanez. Although this deal collapsed, the talks about Momo and Ruben were successfully concluded and only a Champions League disaster could have spoilt it. But Albacete director Antonio Lopez Alfaro claims that “there never has been any doubt about them not coming to us. It has been worth to wait for them because they could keep us in the Primera Division this season. They’re all quality players, and especially the experience of Jaime can balance our midfield”. Because Albacete already have covered the maximum amount of three players on loan, Momo and Ruben will be sold to this club. Nevertheless, they will be ‘bought back’ by Deportivo in 2005. The case of Jaime is different, because his contract at the Galician club ends that year. This means he’ll be released by Deportivo, after having been part of the squad since 1999. Momo commented that “I have the feeling people in La Coruna were satisfied with my performances, so I must say I had a good experience here and I’ll leave with my head up after this pre-season. I always had the illusion of staying here, but the first year always is difficult because of the high level here.
