DETROIT -- As part of the lineup changes promised by Detroit Tigers manager
Jim Leyland, Gary Sheffield will move to left field -- at Sheffield's request.
Sheffield takes the spot of Jacque Jones, who was designated for assignment.

"I'm a better baseball player than I am a DH, " Sheffield said prior to
Monday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.

Sheffield said he never got comfortable in the DH role. "Once I started DHing
and saw what it was all about, it's not me. It just don't fit my personality."

Outfielder Matt Joyce -- called up from Triple-A Toledo after hitting .299
with five homers and 21 RBIs in 28 games -- is in the lineup as the right
fielder Monday night. Magglio Ordonez is the designated hitter.

Leyland said of Sheffield's move to the outfield: "I felt it was our job to
do everything we can to get him going. That's why we made the move ... He has
his bats, he's struggling, then starts drifting instead of going out to
play." Leyland affirmed he would not be shifting Curtis Granderson out of the
leadoff position. "You can take that to the bank," Leyland said.

Leyland证实他不会把Curtis Granderson从leadoff调走
Detroit designated Jones for assignment and has 10 days to trade the
outfielder, put him on unconditional release waivers or send him outright to
the minors.
Jones hit just .165 with a homer and five RBIs in 24 games for the Tigers,
who acquired him during a busy offseason from the Chicago Cubs.
底特律把 Jones DFA 後有10天的时间来交易他 或是把他放到 unconditional
release waivers 上 或是把他放到小联盟去
Jones自从老虎队把他从小熊队交易来之後 出赛24场 打击率.165 全垒打一支
