That was manager Alan Trammell's pronouncement on Monday, a day after Cornejo g ave up six hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners. Cornejo is 1-3 with an 8.42 ERA and has allowed 42 hits in 25 innings, with 11 walks and 12 strikeouts. There was some speculation that Cornejo might be sent down to Triple-A Toledo, but Trammell said that was not in the team's immediate plans. "We have decided to skip Nate with days off and go with a four-man rotation," s aid Trammell. "We have an off-day Thursday, and then three Mondays in a row. So we won't need a fifth starter until sometime in the middle of the month." Trammell said that Cornejo would be in the bullpen, although not for a couple o f days, and would be a candidate for long relief. "Right now we're going to take a step back," said Trammell. "Talking to [pitchi ng coach] Bob [Gluck], and reading some of Nate's comments, I think it tells yo u his confidence is shaken. I think it's pretty obvious that that's happened. "When that happens, it's time to step back and iron some things out and get a b reath of fresh air and allow him to get some innings here and there." About his recent problems, Cornejo said, "I've been struggling all year, since the first game. But I haven't been this bad." Trammell said he was leaning towards making the move even before Cornejo's star t on Sunday. "He just hasn't pitched well, and while it is only four starts, with the off-da ys coming up, it makes it an easier decision at this time," Trammell said. Trammell admitted that he wouldn't have been able to do this two weeks ago. The manager added that Cornejo would be considered for the fifth starting spot lat er in the month. "In my mind I'm still confident that he can help us for what he's done for us, for what he did in Spring Training," Trammell said. "He's lost his confidence a nd hasn't pitched well. We have the opportunity to skip and see if Bob can do s ome things with him."
