The Tribune Company selected a favorite from among the three remaining
candidates seeking to acquire the Cubs and Wrigley Field. It sent the name to
the bankrupt media company’s unsecured creditors committee, said an
executive with knowledge of the decision who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The identity of the bidder was not immediately known. The Chicago Tribune
reported that the creditors would discuss all three offers at a meeting on
Thursday.
The three bids are from Thomas Ricketts, a bond underwriter whose family
founded the TD Ameritrade brokerage; Hersch Klaff, a Chicago commercial real
estate investor; and a group led by Marc Utay, a Manhattan investment banker,
and Leo J. Hindery Jr., a media investor who was the founding chairman of the
YES Network.
