A simulated game is designed to benefit the pitcher and allow him to work in
a controlled environment. Usually Rothschild stands behind the pitcher on the
mound, and two or three hitters rotate against the pitcher.
For example, on April 30 in Houston, Borowski faced teammates Jose Macias
and Ronny Cedeno. The number of pitches thrown is determined by Rothschild,
depending on what the pitcher needs. When Macias got a "hit" -- there weren't
any players in the field -- he stepped out and Cedeno stepped in. The entire
process is designed to simulate a game.
Rothschild also will call out situations -- man on first, one out, for
example. It gets a pitcher thinking about game situations. During the season,
they play sim games on the main field and a few hours before the game starts.
never say never!!

[Theory]
1. No theory is perfect and forever.
2. It is legal and, indeed, desirable to question any accepted theory.
3. Any theory is better than no theory at all.
4. It is crucial to persevere to prove the worth of a new theory.
