Their duo release “Estuary” received the Gold Dolphy 2018 award (jazzaparis.canalblog.com) and described by squidco.com as “creative playing and superb rhythmic interplay, balancing lyrical progressions with a wonderful stream of concepts, this is a great example of the far reach of free jazz.” They have released a duo session on Japanese label Chap Chap Record (“ Extremely Live” CPCD-014), and their first release, on French label Improvising Beings (“Acceptance~Resistance) was a trio session that received recognition worldwide. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 关於表演者 About The Performers/ ● Christian Bucher (CH) http://www.christianbucher.ch/ 1969年生於瑞士，鼓手与击乐演奏家，古典打击乐背景出身，於瑞士伯恩大学学习音乐学 、艺术史与文学，1992至1997年於苏黎世当代音乐学院取得音乐学文凭，2002至2003年进 入琉森音乐学院进修自由即兴演奏。Christian经常与不同领域的艺术家合作，包括绘画 、摄影艺术、雕塑、录像、装置、行为艺术、建筑、文学、剧场、电影与舞蹈等。他更参 与多个演奏组合，如BUG二重奏、WOW三重奏、WIM Zug与Portobello乐团等，亦广泛的参 与唱片录音、广播、电视节目及世界各地的音乐节，演出足迹遍及全球五大洲超过45个国 家。 From 1990 to 1997, Bucher studied musicology, art history and literature at the University of Bern, and from 1992 to 1997 he studied music at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Zurich (jazz music with Kevin Austin, Tony Renold, Peter Preibisch, diploma). He also attended workshops with Paul Lovens and Billy Cobham and studied with Pierre Favre, Willy Kotoun, Marcel Bernasconi and Andreas Hermann at the Lucerne Music College. He then continued his post-graduate studies in free improvisation with Walter Fähndrich, Peter K. Frey and Christoph Baumann at the Lucerne Music College (2002-2003). Bucher also worked as a drummer teacher at the music school Horw, Emmen and at the teachers' seminar St. Michael Zug from 2000 to 2005. Christian has extensive CDs, radio and TV recordings as well as festival performances and concert tours which take him to Australia, Bulgaria, China, Germany, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Slovenia, Spain. His first recorded session with Simon and Christian Bucher, avant garde drummer from Switzerland, attracted the attention of French label "Improvising Beings" and was released as "Acceptance – Resistance". The recordings received many positive reviews, both in the United States and Europe. While in his early 20s, Rick studied traditional jazz improvisation, intervallic cycles and concepts, and extended techniques for sax with Bert Wilson; and recently studied extended techniques for flute with Robert Dick. His style is heavily influenced by Eric Dolphy, Sonny Simmons and the 60s Free Jazz movement. Rick currently has a dozen album releases, on 4 labels across Europe, Asia, and the United States, including multiple albums with legendary Japanese improvisational drummer, Sabu Toyozumi. The music continues to receive positive reviews and airplay. Two recordings were listed in "Gold Dolphy 2018". Rick currently continues his musical pursuit within the Manila scene, appearing regularly in local jazz festivals and jazz/improvisational venues. In February, 2019, he performed and held workshops with Dr. Royal Hartigan at MAKILINC 6 arts festival in the Philippines, and will join Dr. Hartigan again in October, 2019 in Taiwan, for the Yilan International Art Festival. --- ● 张登尧 Deng-Yao Chang 1984年生於新竹，美国马里兰艺术学院艺术创作硕士，2010年回台後持续从事艺术展演、 策划与推广至今，并成立江山艺改所艺文空间。自幼学习钢琴与二胡多年，并参与乐团演 出，聆听音乐类型广泛，从古典传统到前卫实验，近年开始尝试以二胡及唢呐进行自由即 兴与噪音演奏。 Chang Deng-Yao was born 1984 and based in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD. He has been constantly working on artistic practice, curatorial practice and art promotion since returning to Taiwan in 2010. He founded the art space "Jiang Shan Yi Gai Suo". He learned to play piano and erhu for many years when in young ages and participated in a well-known local Chinese orchestra. He enjoys listening to music comprehensively, from very classical or traditional to extremely avant-garde or experimental.
