Jason Richardson rides into NBA free agent frenzy in J-Rich Series vehicle SAGINAW TWP. - Between phone calls and meetings that could dictate the rest of his NBA career, Jason Richardson made a stop in Saginaw to pick up a vehicle. The former Arthur Hill and Michigan State star signed an agreement with McDonald Auto Group to lend his name to a special J-Rich 23 Series of vehicles that will include his signature and his own options. It is only his first agreement of the week. As one of the top NBA free agents, Richardson expects to sign another agreement this week with an NBA team. "It's exciting ... it's almost like I'm being recruited again," Richardson said. "It's the first time I've been a free agent. It's good to see you're still wanted." Richardson, 30, is a 6-foot-6 guard who was the fifth player picked in the 2001 NBA Draft. After beginning his career with Golden State, Richardson was traded to Charlotte and Phoenix before finishing last season with Orlando. After averaging 19.3 points in 25 games for Phoenix, his average fell to 13.9 with the Magic. Still, he is entertaining the idea of going back to the Magic. "I've got an appointment to talk to (Orlando coach) Stan Van Gundy," Richardson said. "They're involved. I've heard Chicago (Bulls), Denver (Nuggets), New Orleans (Hornets), Minnesota (Timberwolves) and Boston (Celtics)." The NBA lockout has created a time crunch for free agents and teams to reach agreements. "Without the lockout, we would have had around three weeks to meet with teams, but because of the lockout we have to get something done in one week," Richardson said. "Things are moving fast." Richardson does like the idea of joining Chicago, joining players such as Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. Richardson insists that any animosity Boozer may feel is in the past. In the 2003 NBA Rookie-Sophomore all-star game, Richardson bounced the ball off Boozer's forehead and sank a 3-pointer before the buzzer. I'm not mad at Lebron (James) for blocking my 360 dunk ... although he didn't really block it because he fouled me." Denver, however, may have the inside track. "I got married over the summer and I live in Denver now," Richardson said. "My family lives there, so playing there would be very convenient. It's also a reason I'm excited about getting to drive this (GMC Sierra). I have a (Mercedes) Benz, but driving around Denver I think I need a truck. I'm going to give it a test drive for a year." McDonald Auto Group will sell the official J-Rich 23 Series GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac CTS. The special vehicles will include a Jason Richardson chrome-plated signature on the side, with a special options package picked by Richardson. "My options have to include rims," Richardson said. "It's got to have chrome, lots of chrome, plus a great sound system. We're going to jazz it up." A portion of the proceeds from the special options package will go to Arthur Hill athletics to help with the cost of tutoring and other educational materials. "I love doing things to give back to the Saginaw community," Richardson said. "I enjoy coming back to Saginaw because I can be a normal person here.
