标题请教两个单字之间的差别

affinity 和 potency
potency我找到比较接近的解释是: ability to effect a purpose.
而affinity我找到在化学上使用的解释是:
the attraction which takes place, at an insensible distance, between
the heterogeneous particles of bodis, and unites them to form chemical
compounds.
我所研究的领域是有关细胞膜上receptor和ligand之间的关系，
这两个自有没有比较明确的区别呢?
