U23联赛第12轮 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/12/ pl2-report--chelsea-v-man-city.html PL2 report: Chelsea 3 Manchester City 2 Tue 19 Dec 2017 Our development squad staged a dramatic late fightback to score three goals in the final 17 minutes and steal all three Premier League 2 points at Aldershot this evening (Tuesday). In our final Academy action of 2017, there were plenty of talking points but few of them positive at half-time as we trailed 2-0 after Lorenzo Gonzalez's early header and Benjamin Garre's effort seconds before the break. Influence from the sidelines and introductions from the bench made a significant difference as substitute Martell Taylor-Crossdale drew us level with two close-range finishes in 11 minutes before Harvey St Clair smashed in a late winner. Edwards made five changes from our last PL2 outing as Dujon Sterling, Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi missed out as they formed part of the first team squad ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth. Marcin Bulka replaced Jamie Cumming in goal, with Richard Nartey, Kyle Scott, Luke McCormick and Juan Castillo returning to start. Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah joined Nartey in a back three, with Josh Grant and Castillo utilised in the wing-back positions. Scott sat alongside skipper Ruben Sammut in central midfield, with Jacob Maddox and McCormick more advanced in support of frontman St Clair. Eight of those who featured in April's two-legged FA Youth Cup final between the two sides were starters on a cold night at Aldershot with the home side's 3-4-3 matched by by visiting manager Simon Davies. It was City who struck first with just four minutes on the clock as the contest's first set-piece proved our undoing. Javairo Dilrosun's left-sided corner was flicked on at the near post and Gonzalez benefited from the simple task of heading beyond Bulka from close range. The Blues made the right response and enjoyed some territorial advantage in the final third without causing the visitors significant problems. Both Maddox and St Clair were shepherded away from goal before Scott's loose pass from a short corner saw our own set-piece opportunity spurned. In their all-maroon away strip, the boys from Manchester were sharp with their early passing and a delivery from Benjamin Garre required exemplary defending from Chalobah, the centre-back aware of the danger and across to the near post to head behind as Gonzalez waited to pounce again. Dilrosun fired narrowly over after accelerating into space 25 yards from goal before James brought the first save of the evening from Pawel Sokol in the City goal. St Clair had supplied the service with a corner from the left and James stretched to reach the ball in the air, though his contact was not sufficient to bring anything more than a routine stop from the Polish keeper. With the teams matched up in shape and system, the tactical emphasis of the contest was important. Both managers urged their players to press high from the front but the hosts were guilty of lacking precision in the pass, restricting their ability to build attacking moves. Castillo advanced dangerously on the counter-attack as the half-hour mark approached after the Blues had cleared a City corner but the Dutchman was left on the turf after running into several defenders and the referee had little interest in signalling for a free-kick. Grant then did well down the right wing, finding space to deliver from an advanced position, though his low cross was just behind the supporting St Clair and McCormick. However, the deficit was doubled before the interval as Garre's initial warning went unheeded. Only a brave block from Nartey thwarted the Argentinian troubling Bulka after he had cut inside from the left but there was no let-off for the home side in added time as Matt Smith's excellent diagonal pass provided the assist for Garre to bundle the ball into the net. The Blues built momentum throughout the opening quarter of an hour after the restart. St Clair floated a ball towards McCormick at the far post but Smith did well to cut it out with a header before Joel Latibeaudiere produced an even better and more important headed clearance to divert Grant's centre away from the six-yard box, where McCormick was lurking once again. The loose ball fell nicely for Maddox to strike venomously towards goal, though Sokol was equal to the effort and held on to prevent the ball being parried into a dangerous area. St Clair turned provider again on the hour mark, delivering a flat corner invitingly for James but the defender couldn't divert his header the right side of the far post. Having earlier introduced Kylian Hazard, Edwards made a double change in personnel and a tactical tweak with 25 minutes remaining. Isaac Christie-Davies and Taylor-Crossdale entered the fray as the hosts switched to 4-3-3 and the changes gave us renewed impetus in the final third. The comeback began after 73 minutes as sub Taylor-Crossdale slid in to poke Grant's low cross from the left past Sokol for his 12th goal of the season. It was just the injection of belief that was needed and Edwards's side took control of proceedings, with City dropping deeper and becoming more flustered. Taylor-Crossdale was the man on the mark again with six minutes remaining. After firing narrowly over the crossbar moments before, the striker required only the simplest of finishes from close range after St Clair's cross had caused problems and Sokol had dispossessed Chalobah. The scene was set for a grandstand finale but it looked like only one team had the tools to take all three points. Victory was sealed late on by St Clair, who fashioned a sight at goal by moving into space and unleashed a cracker of a strike that beat Sokol at his near post. Cue wild celebrations from the home side and their supporters, who urged the players on through four minutes of stoppage time to claim the win. The victory takes us above Man City in the PL2 table and sees us end the calendar year with three consecutive wins at the development squad age group. Our youngsters now break for the festive season before returning to match action in 2018. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/12/ pl2-reaction--reasons-to-be-cheerful.html PL2 reaction: Reasons to be cheerful Wed 20 Dec 2017 Our development squad recorded their fourth win in five matches by coming from behind to win 3-2 against Manchester City last night and finish the year on a high note. The young Blues found themselves 2-0 down at the break but three goals inside a 17-minute blitz sealed the points and saw us leapfrog City in the Premier League 2 standings. Substitute Martell Taylor-Crossdale added a ruthless streak in the box and bagged a brace before Harvey St Clair smashed in a 25-yard winner with 89 minutes on the clock. After the game, manager Joe Edwards admitted the contest was a tale of two halves. He conceded the players failed to sufficiently execute the pre-match plan to control the game in the first half, though an improved display of attitude and application in the second period kick-started a memorable comeback. 'We spoke beforehand about trying to maximise the fact we were the home team,' Edwards told the official Chelsea website. 'We knew it was a game between two sides at the wrong end of the table and with players who are not used to that so we wanted to be really aggressive and positive both with and without the ball. 'We did that in spells but not consistently enough. When we were on top in the first half we looked okay but equally when Man City had a spell they looked dangerous. It was two good teams competing but as with so many games at Aldershot this season, we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a soft early goal. 'We weren't anywhere near the levels we wanted to be at physically or mentally but we sort of found a way back into the game before conceding a second goal right before the break. It was a despondent dressing room at half-time but we just needed to go back to basics and remind ourselves of the mentality and physical effort it requires to compete against a team like City.' Edwards had left himself with attacking options on the bench but waited until the hour mark before making changes. He first wanted to see a reaction from those he had trusted to start, which duly came after the restart, though it was added impetus in the final third that made a key difference. 'We wanted to try to dominate possession because City are a team that are so good with the ball so we picked a team and a system to start that we felt could control the game,' continued the boss. 'The bench was deliberately selected to give us attacking options so when things were clearly not working after an hour, we were able to get Martell and Kylian Hazard on to support Harvey in the final third. When you're 2-0 down at home, you have to go for it so we made some changes in personnel and the system. It gave us a different picture altogether from an attacking point of view and fortunately the forward players did their job in front of goal. 'Having said that, it was still the players in other areas of the pitch like midfield who stepped up massively from their performances in the first half. You can talk about game plans, systems and substitutions but there were too many individuals in the first half who put in off-key performances. Credit to them though, they stepped up and fought back into it in the second half.' After a challenging first half of the league campaign, the Blues are now on the rise in the table - up to eighth, four points clear of danger and with a game in hand on rivals around them. Our development squad also have a January date in the Checkatrade Trophy last-16 against Portsmouth to look forward to, while this festive week could have added Christmas cheer with Academy involvement among the first team this evening at Stamford Bridge. 'Obviously the biggest plus of the week for us is the fact we've got a few players in the first team squad for the Bournemouth game,' admitted Edwards. 'Dujon Sterling and Ethan Ampadu are involved again, while for Callum Hudson-Odoi it would be fantastic for everyone if he was able to make a debut. 'However, this was a big result for a number of reasons – we didn't want to go into the Christmas break hanging on the edge of the relegation zone so it's nice to get three points on the board but the manner of the win is also pleasing. We've had lots of setbacks this season, making little mistakes or conceding goals at the wrong time that have cost us the result. 'There have also been games where we've come back from behind but just run out of time so it was nice for the players to prove to themselves that they're capable of fighting back to win this sort of game. Hopefully the steps we've been making in the right direction in the last few weeks now give us a platform to have a better second half of the season in terms of results.'
