A five-star performance and goals from Trevoh Chalobah, Ike Ugbo, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Dujon Sterling and Cole Dasilva helped the Blues defeat City for the third final in a row and manager Jody Morris was understandably delighted with success in his first year in charge of the group. 'The big players turned up for us when we needed them to,' he told the official Chelsea website after the game. 'Winning breeds winning and we're lucky enough to have a first team that set the standard in that respect. We've had teams before us in this competition that have performed and won on many occasions so it's nice for us to emulate them and with some special performances at the Bridge against Tottenham and Man City as well.' The 5-1 scoreline followed a 7-1 thumping of Spurs in the semi-final second leg and asserted Morris's men as the best in the country for a sixth time in eight years. A bright start was key as Chalobah's header put us in front after just seven minutes before Ugbo's 24th of the season gave the hosts a two-goal advantage that was maintained for all but eight minutes of the remainder of the contest. 'We started quickly but the most pleasing thing for me was that we finished our chances,' Morris continued. 'We've been cursing often this season that we should have scored more goals in games but we put them away at the most important time. We knew City had to come forward to chase the game and we've got players that can hurt teams, which we did.' The trophy success is the second of the campaign for the young Blues following a first-place finish in the Under-18 Premier League south section. Morris and his players are now eyeing a Treble and can achieve that feat with victory in their final three league matches, starting with a tricky trip to Liverpool at the weekend. 'The reason we've done so well in every competition and improved game after game is because we put such a focus on our league results. We've been on fantastic unbeaten runs and beaten records this season because we expect to win every game. That has definitely played a part in us winning the Youth Cup again but we want to finish the job in the league now and win on Saturday.' With the final tied at 1-1 following the first leg in Manchester, Jody Morris's young Blues produced a dazzling display to win 6-2 on aggregate. Antonio Conte was in the stands watching on and offered his personal congratulations to the players in the dressing room after the game as City were beaten in SW6 for the third final in a row. Amid the celebrations, the official Chelsea website spoke to several of those involved both on and off the field. Head of Youth Development Neil Bath has overseen all six trophy wins, orchestrated by four different managers, as we have moved second in the all-time winners table. Only Manchester United have won the prestigious competition more than our tally of eight and Bath was eager to pay tribute to the collective contribution behind such an unprecedented period of success. 'It is such a team effort to win this competition four times on the trot and six times in eight years,' he said. 'In running an Academy there are so many staff who have played a part over the years, from recruitment to coaching and all the other areas of our programme. They all deserve credit for this incredible achievement. 'On the night, our players and staff were just fantastic because we produced at an incredible level technically, tactically, mentally and physically. Of course that requires the players to perform and deliver but it also needs the organisation of the staff so I have to give a huge pat on the back to Jody, Ed [Brand, Under-18s assistant] and all the youth team staff, and to the players. I am extremely proud.' Skipper Mason Mount picked up his second winners medal and he reflected afterwards on dealing with the pressure of keeping the Youth Cup-winning run going. 'There is always pressure,' he said. 'Last year there was massive pressure and it was the same this year because we didn't want to lose. There is a winning mentality in the Academy and we are brought up to have that as young players. We create our own pressure, especially in this competition because we have won four in a row now and hopefully next year we will get that fifth. 'It gives us a lot of confidence to see Antonio Conte here watching us. We are all good players who want to progress further and move up through the club. We're very happy to be able to show what we can do on these big occasions. 'To win 5-1 against Man City is brilliant because they are a top team but I think we played the game right. 'After City scored, we just had to keep strong as a team, be a bit more defensive and compact because we knew we were going to create more chances.' Ike Ugbo finished the campaign with 10 Youth Cup goals after netting our second of the night with a super improvised finish. The striker has filled the striking boots of Tammy Abraham this term with confidence and netted in all but one of our eight ties. 'It's obviously a great feeling to beat City in the final three years in a row and in front of our fans at the Bridge,' he said. 'We started sharply in the first 15 minutes and did well to get the early goal. 'The goal I scored was a good finish because Jody has been telling me to get across my man at the front post like that and I did well to make the connection.
