The two players were in the Milan forward line in May 2005 when the Italian side blew a 3-0 half-time lead against Liverpool to eventually lose the Champions League Final on penalties. Crespo went a little way to avenging that night by scoring in Chelsea's 2-0 win in last season home Premiership fixture against Rafael Benitez's side. Shevchenko did hit the target for his first Chelsea goal in this season's Community Shield but even then, Liverpool ran out winners. “I have played against them twice and twice I have lost. Liverpool are one of the most important clubs in the world and I would like once in my life to win against them,” says Shevchenko as he prepares for his chance this Sunday afternoon. “It is part of the history of football,” he says, recalling that first encounter in Istanbul. “I have watched that game lots of times since and the more I watch it, the more difficult it is to find explanations. I have great respect for Liverpool but when a team is winning 3-0 at half-time and playing very well, it is something that I just can't explain.” Chelsea's new signing may wish to take comfort in the fact Jerzy Dudek, the keeper who pulled-off a remarkable close-range double save against him in the second-half of the Final, and then saved his shoot-out spot kick, is these days second-choice for Liverpool. He can also draw confidence from Chelsea's excellent home record against Sunday's opponents.
