Scott Sinclair scored twice. Chelsea dominated the first-half with Sinclair going close several times and Jimmy Smith hitting the post, but the score remained 0-0 at the interval. Right-back Sam Hutchinson scored his first ever youth team goal ten minutes into the second-half, giving the ball wide to Fabio Ferreira and going on a good run to convert the fine return pass from four yards. Then Sinclair took over. Midway through the half he raced past four defenders before rounding the goalkeeper for another outstanding goal to add to the one he scored at Brighton. Then he was found by Jack Watkins who turned well and passed, Sinclair streaking between the full-back and central defender on to the ball before rounding the keeper for a second time, the other side of him this time, and finishing. A delighted manager, Brendan Rodgers, said: “This was a brilliant performance and response to our defeat during the week. Today showed the quality of the young players.” Sinclair, Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand now go off with England Under 17s to Spain for two international friendlies against Italy at La Manga. Schoolboy Lee Sawyer was also due to travel but last week's injury suffered at Ipswich keeps him out.
