Regulars return recharged
Friday, Jan 13, 2006
The wisdom of a Christmas and New Year period that saw four games played in
eight days has been questioned by various Premiership figures. Chelsea reacted
by giving an extended break to a select group of players. Petr Cech was one.
The Chelsea goalkeeper was joined by other principal workhorses this season
including Frank Lampard, John Terry and Claude Makelele in being excused
involvement in last weekend’s FA Cup tie, from the build-up to the game
itself.
(切赫和几乎场场全勤的兰帕德、特里、马克来来都给予数天假期。)
Back in training for the trip to Sunderland this weekend,
a refreshed Cech told
Chelsea TV: “I had known that we would have two days off but I did not expect
five days. So when Jose Mourinho told me that I could go somewhere for five
days, I couldn’t believe it.”
(我已经知道我们有几天假期可休息,我没想过会有五天假期,当莫里尼奥告诉我可以
放假五天,我简直不敢相信。)
He spent the time with his wife in Switzerland having played all four of the
Christmas games.
“The break was important for some players, especially those who had played
every game. The schedule this year for us was crazy. Last season there were
four days between the last game of the year and the first game of the new
year. This season it came so quickly that I think everyone was tired, not
just physically because it was a lot of games, but also mentally because it
was an important period for us.”
(休假对一些打满每一场比赛的球员很重要。这赛季和上赛季的赛事都安排的很密集,
球员们也会感到疲惫无力。)
Chelsea of course took a maximum 12 points.
“It has been the same as last year,” Cech reflected. “All of our opponents
were hoping we could drop points but as last year, they did. We showed them
that we can cope with the pressure, we can cope with the schedule and we can
cope with everything.”
(对手们也和去年一样希望我们在圣诞节期间惨遭滑铁卢,事实证明对於对手的压力、
密集的赛程我们应付得很好。)
Chelsea TV will be showing a full-length exclusive Petr Cech interview on
Tuesday 17th January at 11pm.
