He has played at centre-back, right-back and defensive midfield but it is as centre-back that majority of his games have been played during the current campaign. This week was the earliest opportunity the regulations allow for pro forms to be offered and at the signing, Academy director Neil Bath said: “Michael has been here since eight years so his contract is very pleasing for the Academy. I think he will be a regular in the Reserves for the rest of the season and hopefully he may get an opportunity with the first team or maybe out on loan as the next part of his development. “He is a fantastic athlete and comfortable on the ball. We talk about him improving other parts of his game and he is a level-headed lad. He knows there is still a long, long way to go.” Mancienne himself said: “I've been waiting for it for a long, long time so I am happy to finally have this day. I've got to concentrate on playing well even now I've got the contract.
