A Boxing Day message from the chairman
Monday, Dec 26, 2005
The following message from Chelsea Football Club chairman Bruce Buck
appears in the matchday programme for the game against Fulham:
(以下是却尔西足球俱乐部主席布鲁斯˙巴克给大家的话。)
Good afternoon. I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season. And
what a start to the Christmas period with the win over Arsenal at Highbury
last week. It was a fantastic performance.
You know of course that for our players and coaching staff, the
Christmas/New Year period is not a time off with families, but rather it
is work, work, work as we play four matches in a ten day period. For the
rest of us, however, there is a bit of time for reflection on the year
about to end.
The year 2005 has been very, very good to Chelsea Football Club.
Three trophies (FAPL champions, the Carling Cup and the Community Shield)
and a great start to the 2005-2006 Centenary season.
Speaking of the Centenary, we do have several events remaining and we
hope to see you at one, or more, of them. At our Christmas event at Old
Billingsgate Market last week, with almost 1,000 loyal fans as well as
current and former players in attendance, we raised more than £110,000
for our partner charity, CLIC Sargent.
It is always great to see former players come to our events. The
current board are well aware of the club's history and the important role
these players down the decades have played in shaping Chelsea. In the
future I am hopeful we will put in place structures to recognise further
their legacy.
In the last 18 months, Chelsea has helped CLIC Sargent, and other
charities, raise well over £1,000,000. That total is increasing all the
time, and at our next charity auction in April, I will have a very special
waistcoat to auction off, with some very special autographs on it - so
watch out for that.
Assisting charities, and being an important influence in our
community, is an integral part of what Chelsea Football Club is, and wants
to continue to be. Our players, staff and management all recognize this
and are completely committed to these goals.
Our players in particular frequently play an enormous part in lifting
the spirits of the less fortunate, and especially young children who are
unwell. We have seen this time and again during the course of the year,
when a young cancer victim visits the dressing room and gets a royal
welcome from our players, or when a group of players visit a hospital ward.
This Christmas the squad visited two London hospitals, University College
Hospital and the Chelsea and Westminster. These are all good things, and we
will continue to do more than our fair share.
We also want to be active participants in football's efforts to "Kick
Racism Out of Football". You, our fans and supporters, have helped us make
enormous strides in that direction and we thank you for that. We will all
do more.
Back on the pitch, we look for your continued support for John Terry
& Company. One of my New Year's resolutions is to hear an increased level
of noise and support at Stamford Bridge - not just in the Matthew Harding
Lower and Upper, but around the stadium. When Barcelona visit on February
22nd we expect the noise to be deafening.
And, finally, on behalf of all of us at Chelsea Football Club, and
particularly on behalf of Roman Abramovich and my fellow directors Eugene
Tenenbaum and Peter Kenyon, let me wish each of you, and your families, a
safe, healthy and prosperous New Year.
