After a nationwide search involving thousands of young hopefuls, and a selection weekend at Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, the 12 selected players arrive to join the Premiership champions on a six week trial. They will be living a Premier League lifestyle in the Football Icon mansion a short ride from the training ground; where housekeeper Sue Foley will be making sure they keep their minds focussed on the pitch. And they will be trying to impress Youth Academy manager Neil Bath and his team, including Football Icon judge Ray Wilkins. After a fortnight’s grace, Neil will start making the tough decisions that every football boss has to make, releasing the lads who he doesn’t think are up to scratch. Over the course of the series, the group will gradually be whittled down, until finally Jose Mourinho will anoint the Special One - the nation’s next football icon. They will win a professional contract for the rest of the 2005-6 season.
