CECH TO MAKE BLUES SUMMER MOVE
Monday 9th February 2004
Championnat side Rennes have confirmed a deal has been struck with
Premiership outfit Chelsea for the transfer of keeper Petr Cech in the
summer.
The Blues have been negotiating with the French outfit for the past
few weeks regarding the highly-rated shot-stopper and have finally landed
their man.
Rennes were always likely to cash in on Cech, however the side wanted
to agree a deal which allowed them to keep the shot-stopper until the end
of the campaign.
Cech joined Rennes from Sparta Prague in 2002 and along with having
15 caps for his country he is likely to feature prominently in Euro 2004.
Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri will have a host of keepers to chose from
next term, with Carlo Cudicini, Neil Sullivan, Jurgen Macho and Marco
Ambrosio all vying for the number one shirt.
"Petr Cech's transfer was signed on Monday between Rennes and Chelsea,"
read Rennes' club statement. "The Czech international will leave Brittany at
the end of the season."
