The way two statistics played out during the first half certainly didn’t help Boston’s cause. The C’s were about as bad as they could get from 3-point range while the Rockets were about as good as they could get from the free-throw line. The Celtics were open for the majority of their 3-point attempts Saturday night. They just couldn’t make any of them. Boston finished the first half having missed all 12 of their attempts from long range. Six players fired a shot up from downtown over the opening 24 minutes, with Jeff Green accounting for four of the misses. Green’s 3-pointer, Boston’s lone made trey of the night, was not enough to spark the C's. The key reason was the Rockets' success at the free-throw line. Houston got to the line early and often as it built up its huge lead. James Harden was a regular at the charity stripe in the first half, attempting 10 attempts over the opening two quarters. He made all 10 of those shots. His teammates joined in on the party as well, combining to make 10 of 14 attempts. All in all, the Rockets shot 20-of-24 from the stripe in the first half – 18 more makes and 21 more attempts than the C’s tossed up. There was no turning this game around after those two factors came into play. You can say that again. Harden's 5-of-14 shooting night is not very indicative of his overall performance. Harden rocked his defenders from side to side and from front to back, all leading to his 14 free throw attempts on the night. Harden drained all of them en route to a game-high 26 points. A lot of players can score the rock, but special ones bring more to the table. Harden contributed across the board by also pulling in eight rebounds, dishing out six assists and ripping four steals. He even blocked a shot against his former teammate, Jeff Green.
