Oh, if only the Celtics had won Game 4 out in Deee-troit.
We wouldn’t have had all that rain yesterday. The afternoon commute
would have been a breeze. Gas prices would have gone down. Optimism
about the Celtics would have gone up.
But the Celtics lost Monday night, which means you couldn’t turn in
any direction yesterday without someone expressing “frustration”
with this team. You’d hear that the cleverly marketed Big Three is
really Two-and-a-Half Men (naturally, that’s a shot at Ray Allen),
that Rajon Rondo is a Not Ready for Primetime Player and, a favorite,
that coach Doc Rivers is not a Very Smart Person.
A note on Doc: After crunching the numbers, it has been determined
that there have been 10 games this postseason in which he has proved
himself to be a Very Smart Person, and eight games in which the evidence
clearly shows he was not a Very Smart Person. Coincidentally, the
Celtics are 10-8.
The point? People need to get a grip. To be more precise, people who
did not follow the Celtics in the 1950s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s need
to get a grip. It used to be that Celtics fans understood the ebb and
flow of a postseason, that playing the same team seven times in two weeks
is not the same as playing a team in November and then saying, “Have
a Merry Christmas,” as you exit the arena.
Had the Celtics gone into The Palace of Auburn Hills and lost Saturday
night’s Game 3 and then emerged with a spirited victory in Game 4,
everyone around here would be delirious. That the Celtics did it the
other way around, and that many of our fellow citizens are concerned
about this, boggles the mind. Either way, it comes down to this: The
Celtics host the Pistons tonight at the Garden in Game 5 of the Eastern
Conference finals, with each team having won two games. And this is
exactly what we all expected. Yes? No? Hello?
The only thing we have learned so far is that the vaunted homecourt
advantage has been proved not to be a lock - leastways, not in this
series. The Pistons won Game 2 at the Garden, the Celtics won Game 3
at The Palace. That made Celtics captain Paul Pierce spot-on accurate
following yesterday afternoon’s practice session when he said, “We
can’t assume (Game 5) is going to be an automatic win just because
we’re at home. Detroit beat us on our homecourt.”
But then Pierce made a comment about tonight’s Game 5.
“This is definitely a must-win,” he said. “Right now Detroit has
the momentum and the team that gets the win is the team that gets the
momentum. So we have to find some way somehow to get a win at home and
bring that momentum back to Detroit. Definitely our backs are against
the wall. We’ve got to get this win.”
Must-win? Backs against the wall? Well, no, not technically speaking.
A must win is when the alternative is that your season is over. But in
the real world - that is, the real NBA world - it’s OK to call Game 5
a must-win for the Celtics. And, sure, it’s OK to truck out that old
line about their backs being against the wall. Pierce knows, as we all
do, that going into a Game 6 at The Palace, facing elimination, would
make the Celtics huge underdogs because: a.) history has taught us that
teams that win Game 5 usually go on to win the series; b.) we simply don't
have a file on what these Celtics can do when they trail in a series.
So, sure, you want to make a big deal out of Game 5? You go right ahead.
But if Game 4 has you concerned that there won’t be a banner No. 17 this
year and that someone won’t be lighting up a cigar in Red’s memory . . .
please stop. This thing is tied 2-2. You got what you wanted. Enjoy.
Yahoo fans
Are we Yahoo fans?we can only love our team when winning?
唱衰反弹越高XDDD(把软豆鞭到成硬豆为止~)
