Officiated by a judge, good friends Nikola and Ivana Janicijevic served as "kumovi," a Serbian term for witnesses and honor attendants to the wedding. Simic and Janicijevic's 10-month-old daughter, Mia Simic, was the only other person in attendance. Although it was a simple, civil ceremony that lasted about an hour, the judge included wine and a candle to demonstrate a traditional Serbian wedding. "The atmosphere was beautiful," Janicijevic said. "Nobody really cried, although we were all tearing a little. Overall it was an amazing experience."
