玛窦福音11:11-15
我实在告诉你们：在妇女所生者中，没有兴起一位比洗者若翰更大的；
但在天国里最小的，也比他大。
由洗者若翰的日子直到如今，天国是以猛力夺取的，
以猛力夺取的人，就攫取了它，
因为众先知和法律讲说预言，直到若翰为止。
若是你们愿意接受，他就是那位要来的厄里亚。有耳的，听罢！
11 'In truth I tell you, of all the children born to women, there has never
been anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of
Heaven is greater than he.
12 Since John the Baptist came, up to this present time, the kingdom of
Heaven has been subjected to violence and the violent are taking it by storm.
13 Because it was towards John that all the prophecies of the prophets and of
the Law were leading;
14 and he, if you will believe me, is the Elijah who was to return.
15 Anyone who has ears should listen!

…
be subjected to，其实是动词subject to的被动式。动词subject to
意谓「使……屈服於……」或「使……遭受……」，通常用以描述令人
不快的经历。例如：This man has subjected his children to years
of abuse.（这男子长年虐待他的孩子。）换成被动式，
便是：The children have been subjected to years
of abuse by their father.（这些孩子长年受到父亲虐待。）其他例子有：
This country has been subjected to foreign rule for a century.
（这个国家遭外国统治已经百年了。）
The racial minorities are subjected to discrimination.
（少数族裔饱受歧视。）
During the colonial era, local people who wanted to join the
civil service were subjected to additional requirements.
（殖民地年代，本地人应徵公务员，须符合额外要求。）
Subject to 和 subjected to 的最大差异，是 subjected to 有不情愿的意味。
机场要求乘客登机前接受安全检查，会说：
Airline passengers are subject to security checks prior to boarding，
但不满被搜身的乘客可能会说：
I was subjected to a humiliating search before boarding the plane，
分别正在於前者说明登机的规则，态度中立，
後者则强调乘客并非情愿，带有贬义。
