WILL CATE BLANCHETT JOIN RIDLEY SCOTT TO MAKE “BRITAIN STOP”? It’s recently been confirmed that Cate Blanchett has received an offer to star in THE DAY BRITAIN STOPPED, an adventure thriller about a giant shipping explosion that lead to the meltdown of Britain’s transport system. Ridley Scott has been developing the project, and recently made headlines with his choice of Kieran Fitzgerald to pen the script. Ridley’s own company, Scott Free Productions, is producing along with Film Rites, and they are working in tandem with Twentieth Century Fox. This is set to be a huge production with or without Blanchett’s attachment, but her talent would no doubt add another dimension to the action-adventure film that will make it a well-rounded piece of cinema. The story is based on a docudrama of the same name by Gabriel Range, and explores a fictionalized disaster at the hands of the U.S. Government. Amdist a series of explosions started by a train crash, a female captain is mistaken for an enemy combatant and must fight to prove her innocence. The film first aired on BBC in 2003 and was an instant hit. Blanchett is still hot off her Oscar win for “Blue Jasmine” in 2013, and recently starred in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and “Monuments Men.” She has four films in post-production, including a live-action version of Disney’s “Cinderella” in which she plays the wicked stepmother, and another 8 films currently in development. Ridley Scott, Steve Zaillan, and Michael Schaefer are producing, along with Elishia Holmes and Garret Basch executive producing.
