"I like to take on projects that are in pockets of life that I don't have any particular knowledge of," says Blanchett, who relishes "the research and the teasing apart of a character."" Per Woods, her role in "Little Fish" is the closest she's come to playing someone her own age and of her own culture. "This is probably the scariest challenge for Cate yet." Recent accomplishments: Won her first Oscar this year, for supporting actress in "The Aviator." Blanchett says the experience gave her some unexpected perspective. "You get to the top of a mountain that ends up being a plateau. You can look forward but also backwards. It's the first time I've really taken stock.
