Martinez won the “ final vote” with a frenetic social media push that bested reigning MVP Clayton Kershaw and Cincinnati ace Johnny Cueto. Yet, those mandates weren’t enough to get them in the game, on the mound where peers and fans had voted that they be. Instead, LA’s Kershaw, who wasn’t picked by players or fans or initially by the manager, pitched.
