Di Vaio loses out to Vieri

Marco Di Vaio will play no part in Monaco's UEFA Cup campaign after
the club opted to select Christian Vieri ahead of him in Europe this season.
Boss Francesco Guidolin, whose Monaco side face Basel in the last 16
of the competition next week, had to make the tough choice between
his two Italian strikers.
UEFA rules dictate that a side is only allowed to pick one player
who has already played in European competition with another club
during the course of the same season.
With both Di Vaio and Vieri having appeared in the Champions League
for Valencia and Milan respectively, only one of them could feature
against Basel next week – and Guidolin plumped for Vieri.
The news will come as a blow to the former Juventus and Parma striker
who moved to Monaco from Spain shortly before Vieri, in a bid to revive
his career and make a late bid for a place in Marcello Lippi's World Cup
squad in the summer.
The shop window of the UEFA Cup is a great opportunity for a prospective
international striker to demonstrate their ability to score against some
of the finest sides.
“The decision to pick Vieri was taken by the technical staff of the club,”
said Monaco Vice-President Gerard Brianti. “We could only choose one
from him and Di Vaio.”

所以，Valencia的 Di Vaio，Milan的 Vieri，只能选一个…
