LOS ANGELES -- The early removal of infielder Nick Green from Monday night's
Albuquerque Isotopes game further fueled speculation that the Dodgers will
place shortstop Rafael Furcal on the disabled list on Tuesday with a right
hamstring strain.
Furcal was injured in the first game of last Tuesday's doubleheader in New
York trying to beat out a double-play grounder. He underwent a platelet-rich
plasma injection on Thursday to promote healing and has missed six games.
This would be Furcal's third trip to the DL in his five seasons with the
Dodgers.
Jamey Carroll has started at shortstop in Furcal's absence.
Green, 31, was removed in the sixth inning of Albuquerque's game in Memphis.
He is hitting .219 this year with two homers and seven RBIs. He played 104
games with Boston last year, then underwent surgery to repair a herniated
disk in his back. He also has Major League service time with Atlanta, Tampa
Bay, the Yankees and Seattle.
Furcal will be the sixth Dodger on the DL, joining Brad Ausmus, Vicente
Padilla, Manny Ramirez, Cory Wade and Jeff Weaver.
Green will be the fifth non-roster player to make the 25-man roster this
year, joining Garret Anderson, Ramon Ortiz, Russ Ortiz and Weaver.
